Labor Day weekend brings the tall ships to San Diego Bay during the Festival of Sail. A replica of the San Salvador led the tall ships parade through the bay. The San Salvador is the ship that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into San Diego Bay in 1542. The replica took hundreds of volunteers 4 1/2 years to complete and this was its maiden voyage. It matches the original size, weighing 150 tons and measuring 92 feet long by 24 feet wide. We watched the construction over the last few years so we were excited to see it at sea. It will travel along the California coast as an ambassador for San Diego and a floating classroom.

This captain came right up to shore and started firing upon us. I was lucky to get this shot off before taking cover LOL

This is my favorite picture. The captain wanted to please the crowd so he sailed between the moored boats and shore. All the while firing upon us!

This one stood out in a crowd of white sails.

The only thing flying here was the American Flag.
